Carrigaline Bookshop has been selected as one of four Cork outlets to host special events as part of Irish Book Week 2025, which runs from October 18th to 25th.

Now in its eighth year, Irish Book Week is a nationwide celebration of Irish bookshops, authors, publishers, illustrators, and poets. The initiative encourages readers to shop local and shop Irish, while discovering — or rediscovering — the joy of reading through in-store events and creative displays.

On Saturday, October 18th, Carrigaline Bookshop will host an in-store event offering visitors the opportunity to meet and chat with several acclaimed writers, including Patrick Holloway, Irish Book Week ambassador and Carrigaline resident, along with Jennifer Horgan, Matthew Geden, and Louise Hegarty.

Patrick Holloway, a prize-winning writer of fiction and poetry, published his debut novel The Language of Remembering earlier this year to critical acclaim. He is also co-editor of the literary journal The Four Faced Liar and serves as Erasmus Coordinator at Munster Technological University.

Jennifer Horgan, a Cork-based poet, English teacher, and Irish Examiner columnist, is the author of O Captain My Captain: One Teacher’s Hope for Change in the Irish Education System (2021) and her debut poetry collection Care, published earlier this year.

Kinsale poet Matthew Geden has published several works including The Place Inside, Fruit, and The Cloud Architect, and has served as Writer in Residence for Cork County Library and Arts Service since 2020.

Louise Hegarty’s short fiction has appeared in Banshee, The Stinging Fly, The Dublin Review, and The Tangerine. Winner of the inaugural Business Post/Penguin Ireland Short Story Prize, her debut novel Fair Play was published in April.

Speaking ahead of the event, Jerome O’Leary, owner of Carrigaline Bookshop, said:

“We’re delighted to be part of Irish Book Week again this year and to celebrate the wonderful community of readers and writers here in Cork. It’s a fantastic opportunity for people to meet local authors, discover new books, and enjoy the atmosphere that makes independent bookshops so special.”
