Lidl Ireland, in collaboration with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA), has announced Carrigaline Ladies Gaelic Football Club as the recipient of the top prize in the 2025 Lidl Plus LGFA Rewards Scheme. This win comes after a rigorous campaign, with the club's exceptional commitment and enthusiasm on and off the pitch securing them the €50,000 first prize from a total pool of over €80,000.
Carrigaline LGFA competed against three other clubs for the top position. Each club produced a video showcasing their dedication to women's sport and their plans for the prize money to develop their club within their local communities. Following a close contest, Carrigaline LGFA garnered the most votes from communities across Ireland. This timely reward for Carrigaline LGFA follows their senior ladies' team's recent victory in the Cork division two league, marking their third consecutive promotion, and they will now advance to division one next year.
Three runners-up, Gráinne Mhaols Ladies Gaelic Football Club (Clifden, Co. Galway), Lurgan Ladies Gaelic Football Club (Virginia, Co. Cavan), and Navan O’Mahony’s Ladies Gaelic Football Club (Navan, Co. Meath), will each receive €10,000 in funding from Lidl Ireland to support their development and facilities.
Now in its fourth year, this initiative was established by Lidl Ireland as part of its long-standing partnership with the LGFA. The scheme aims to foster grassroots development and highlight the strong community spirit within LGFA clubs nationwide. This year's program continues to build on its positive impact, with over 740 participating LGFA teams receiving new jerseys valued at more than €380,000. To date, the Lidl Plus LGFA Reward Scheme has invested over €800,000 in local teams.

Tara O’Connor, Regional Managing Director for Munster at Lidl Ireland, expressed delight at the announcement: “We are delighted to finally announce the winners of this year’s Lidl Plus LGFA Rewards Scheme. A huge congratulations to Carrigaline LGFA for showing how impactful grassroots support can be in encouraging young girls to engage with sport from an early age. Thanks to the Lidl Plus LGFA Rewards Scheme, communities have the chance to make a real difference to their local LGFA teams, and this passion and dedication has led Carrigaline LGFA to claim the top prize of €50,000 of vital investment. The driving force behind our longstanding sponsorship of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association has always been the impact we can make in communities across the country. This funding will be vital in upgrading facilities, equipment, and resources at Carrigaline to ensure that the next generation of female athletes can be championed within their clubs and achieve a bright and active future within the LGFA. Carrigaline LGFA embodies that community pride we see through our national partnership, and it’s great to see this passion and excitement on the build up to the Passage West GAA Ladies Football Blitz 2025 that will be kicking off in September this year.”
Trina Murray, President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, added: "The Lidl Plus LGFA Rewards Scheme has grown in momentum year after year. This scheme continues to provide crucial support to our clubs, and we’re thrilled to see such strong engagement again this year. Huge congratulations to all the winners, your efforts reflect the passion and purpose at the heart of LGFA clubs across Ireland. We’re delighted to see Carrigaline LGFA earn the top prize of €50,000. This initiative offers an incredible opportunity for communities to demonstrate their support while earning important funds for clubs. It’s been fantastic to witness so many teams get involved and create lasting benefits for their players and facilities.”
Participation in the scheme involved registered shoppers collecting digital stamps through the Lidl Plus app by spending €50 or more in Lidl stores nationwide during February and March. Each completed stamp card contributed to a club's total. Clubs that accumulated a minimum of 50 completed stamp cards were guaranteed a reward, ranging from Lidl-sponsored jerseys to cash funding of up to €5,000.
In 2024, Lidl sourced over €128 million in goods and services from Cork suppliers. The company continues to support the LGFA through various partnerships, including this year's collaboration with McDaid’s Football Special. From Thursday, June 26th, coinciding with the LGFA knockout stages, and again from Thursday, July 31st, before the TG4 All-Ireland Championship Finals, 1L original Football Special bottles featuring ladies’ Gaelic football artwork will be available for €1.79 / £1.49.
Since 2016, Lidl has invested over €10 million in the LGFA through its pioneering partnership, significantly enhancing the perception and profile of women’s sport in Ireland.
