Carrigaline Running Track On Course For Next Year

Writes Leo McMahon

Construction of a running track at Carrigaline Community Park is scheduled to commence early next year, members of Cork County Council’s Carrigaline Municipal District (MD) were informed at their monthly meeting.

In a report, MD officer Noelle Desmond said a source of funding for the hybrid-surface trace was identified. ‘Specification documents are currently being prepared and expected to be advertised shortly. The tender process will take five to seven weeks. Allowing for the appointment of a contractor and materials, the start date is early 2020. Timeline for completion is around ten weeks but we will be more definite after the tender returns.’

The running track will be 400 metres long and the existing surface in the park upgraded and 1.2 metres wide with a durable surface suitable for all users.

Cathaoirleach Seamus McGrath (FF) called for a footpath between the playground and the skateboard park in the community park to be put on the programme of works for 2020.
