Carrigaline Tennis Club serves up impressive wins on finals day

Carrigaline Tennis Club emerged victorious in many events on finals day following a hugely competitive National Tour 500 Doubles Summer Open tournament.


In level 2 ladies doubles, Carrigaline’s Kasia Gumienny and Fiona Geary came out on top after 3 sets, against Bandon’s mother and daughter team Ann and Emma Davis (1-6, 6-3, 6-0).


In level 4 mens doubles, Carrigaline’s Dara Kelly and Luke Ronayne had a comfortable win over top seeds Bishopstown’s Andrew Porras and Kevin Tobin (6-3, 6-4).


In level 5 ladies doubles, Carrigaline’s Hayley Williams and Ballinlough’s Caroline Frawley beat Carrigaline’s Melissa Walsh and Caoilfhionn Nic Gabhann in three sets, (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).

In level 6 ladies doubles, Carrigaline’s Sinéad O’Sullivan and Catherine Horgan also enjoyed a win over Douglas’ Sandra Carey and Majella O’Regan (7-6, 6-3).

Other local players also reached the finals.


In level 2 mixed doubles Kasia Gumienny, in her second final and Daniel Foran lost to top seeds Jennifer Haugh and Kevin Jnr Quirke from Sunday’s Well (6-3, 6-3).


In level 4 mixed doubles, Carrigaline’s Gavin Chambers and Janet O’Sullivan, lost out in three sets to top seeds to Douglas’ Lorcan Fenton-Leogue and Catherine Clarke (4-6, 6-3, 6-3).


In level 4 ladies doubles, Carrigaline’s Majella Joseph and Garryduff’s Orla Cartner lost in 3 sets to top seeds Emily Hardman and Cathy Murray from Bishopstown (7-6, 5-7, 6-4).


In level 5 mixed doubles, Hayley Williams in her second final of the day and Fountainstown’s Simon Nicholson lost to St Michael’s (Blackrock) Bob Grantham and Lorraine Wallace (6-1, 6-4).


Congratulating the winers and losers, Carrigaline captain Joana da Sliva, said “We’ve had another impressive week of tennis on display with almost 400 players competing. The level of tennis is growing exponentially with players travelling from all over Cork county and beyond.”
