Sunshine, Outstanding Tennis and Community Spirit Shine at Astra Construction Carrigaline Tennis Club Senior Tour 500 Summer Doubles Open

Glorious sunshine, packed courts and outstanding tennis combined to make this year's Astra Construction Carrigaline Tennis Club Senior Tour 500 Summer Doubles Open one of the most memorable in recent years.

The tournament produced a host of thrilling contests across all grades, with several Carrigaline members featuring prominently in the finals.

In the Ladies' Doubles Band 7 final, Carrigaline's Ciara White and Paula Hanley produced an excellent display to claim the title, delighting the home support.

The Mixed Doubles Band 6 final was an all-Carrigaline affair, guaranteeing that the trophy would remain at the club. Sinéad White and Michael O'Flaherty faced Ruben Lopez and Deirdre Stewart in a fantastic contest played in great spirit. White and O'Flaherty ultimately emerged victorious after an entertaining final that showcased the strength and depth of tennis within the club.

The Men's Doubles Band 6 final also provided plenty of excitement as Carrigaline's Liam Lester and Keith O'Donoghue took on Ballinlough's Igor Irvin Orgoz and Pat Dalton. In one of the matches of the tournament, the pairs battled through a thrilling three-set encounter before the Ballinlough duo edged a hard-fought victory.

The Ladies' Doubles Band 3 final featured a neighbourly rivalry between Crosshaven's Niamh Griffin and Denise Hobbs and Carrigaline's Fiona Geary and Kasha Guimney. In a high-quality contest, the Crosshaven pair claimed victory, but the match perfectly reflected the competitive spirit and great camaraderie that exists between the two neighbouring clubs.

While the tennis on court was of the highest standard, the tournament was equally a celebration of community spirit. Throughout the week, the clubhouse was filled with players, families and supporters, creating a welcoming atmosphere that has become synonymous with the Carrigaline tournament.

Carrigaline Tennis Club extends its sincere gratitude to Astra Construction, whose continued commitment as title sponsor has been instrumental in the success of the tournament. The club also wishes to thank Stephen McCarthy, owner of Astra Construction and a long-standing club member, for his unwavering support over the years. Next year will mark an incredible milestone as Astra Construction celebrates 20 years as title sponsor of the tournament – a remarkable partnership that continues to strengthen both the event and the club.

Tournament Director and Club Captain Joanna Silva deserves enormous credit for delivering another exceptionally well-organised event, with players praising the welcoming atmosphere, smooth scheduling and outstanding hospitality throughout the week. Special thanks also go to Chairperson Ger O'Connor for his leadership and support throughout the tournament, and to Emma Jane Murphy, who did a tremendous job coordinating the tournament catering and helping to create the warm, welcoming atmosphere enjoyed by players and spectators alike.
