Cyclists from many parts of Ireland and the world will be taking part in the 9th Race Around Ireland which gets underway from Trim, Co. Meath on Sunday 27th August. This year 4 members of the Carrigdhoun Cycling Club based in Carrigaline will be putting themselves through the toughest endurance race in Ireland.

The Carrigdhoun cyclists will be competing alongside riders from a host of countries including England, Scotland, Monaco, Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, America and Australia.

The Carrigdhoun team taking part in the race include Trevor Deasy, Aidan Murphy, Paul Scannell and John Grace.

The Race Around Ireland is an Ultra Marathon Cycling Association (UMCA) World Cup event and is the second highest ranked race of its kind in the world.

Racers will be taken around Ireland on a 2,150km journey, on some of the toughest terrains, but some of the most beautiful landscapes to be seen around the coast of Ireland, they will have 96hrs to complete the distance or face disqualification.

“There will be live GPS tracking of the racers, which will allow family, friends and supporters to follow their riders and be able to cheer them on from the side-lines.”
