Construction Under Way On 40 New Homes For Kinsale

Trying to buy or build a house in such a desirable location as Kinsale isn’t easy so there was cause for celebration on November 27th with the breaking of ground at Radharc An tSaile, a development of 40 social units at Cappagh, Ballinacubby by Cluid Housing, in partnership with Cork County Council.
The €9.7 million scheme near Saile Sports and Community Centre and local schools, comprising 18 two-bed and 20 three bed two storey houses plus two bungalows suitable for persons with special needs and two green spaces, is due for completion in 20 months.
Main contractor MMD Construction, Cork also built the nearby Scoil Naomh Eltin and the extension to Kinsale Community School. Other professionals include Vincent Hannon Architects, Mac Construction, quantity surveyors; DJF, engineering consultants and Delap and Waller, service engineers.
Cluid, Ireland’s largest not-for-profit housing association, is financing construction through a combination of a Capital Advance and Availability Payment from the Department of Local Government and with the Housing Finance Agency. It forms part of the Government’s Rebuilding Ireland Programme.
‘This project is a fine example of what can be achieved when local authorities and housing associations work in partnership and meet demand’ said Mayor of Cork County Patrick Gerard Murphy.
He, particularly welcomed provision of units for single persons and those with special needs at a prime location in an area of high demand.
He also spoke of the excellent track record and good working relationship with Cluid, represented by chief executive Brian O’Gorman; business manager James O’Halloran; head of new business Fiona Cormican and project manager Brian Carey.
MMD construction represented by director Kevin O’Leary and site manager Martin Vaughan and the County Council represented by divisional manager Clodagh Henehan; director of services Maurice Manning; senior executive officers Seamus deFaoite, Richard Keating and Keith Jones and administrator Breda Murphy plus Cllrs Kevin Murphy, Alan Coleman, Gillian Coughlan and John O’Sullivan.
In attendance also were Keith Greenway, Virgil Horgan and Anne Murphy of Saile who hosted a reception after the ‘breaking of ground’; Senator Tim Lombard, Minister Jim Daly and former Kinsale town councillors Dermot Collins and Dermot Ryan.
