The Crosshaven Traditional Sail is set to return from Friday, June 12th to Sunday, June 14th, promising a weekend filled with maritime tradition and coastal charm. Since its inception in 1995, the event has become a beloved highlight of Crosshaven’s social calendar.
The second weekend in June will see a host of events, including a captivating parade of sail, a display of traditional boats, and a much-anticipated firework display.
The first Traditional Sail was spearheaded by Wietse Buwalda and Thecla Cronin, aiming to provide a platform for boats outside established sailing organisations. Over the years, it has created a strong sense of local camaraderie, with businesses and pubs joining in the festivities with BBQs and fancy dress parties.

Mark Bushe, a long-time supporter and former Chairman of the event, lauded the dedication of individuals who have contributed to the festival's enduring success.
Bushe fondly recalled early editions, such as the prize giving in 1995 which took place from Witse Buwalda’s pick-up truck, and the excitement of Friday evenings when flotillas from Cobh and East Ferry would sail into the harbour. At its peak, the Traditional Sail attracted over tens of boats, even drawing entries from as far afield as New Zealand.
Organisers say the festival will once again combine on-water activity with music, food and entertainment ashore. Parades of sail are scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday, bringing fleets of traditional craft into the harbour.
