Kinsale GAA has been approved for €8 million in government funding under the Immigrant Investor Programme (IIP) to assist in the development of the club’s new facilities.

The funding package will support major capital works, including pitches, a clubhouse, ball wall, car parking, changing rooms and associated facilities.

Welcoming the announcement, Cork South West Deputy Christopher O’Sullivan described the approval as “incredible news” for the community and acknowledged the work that had gone into the application process.

Kinsale GAA Chairperson Ger Webb also paid tribute to those involved in securing the funding.

“Today is arguably one of the most momentous days off the pitch in our long history. Our club has been approved for government funding to the value of €8,000,000.

“This funding is specifically for pitch, clubhouse, ball wall, car parking, changing rooms and ancillaries and will bring Kinsale GAA into a new modern era with a state-of-the-art facility.

“I would like to extend sincere thanks to our Exec and in particular to our development committee who have worked tirelessly and lobbied hard for this approval. Personally, I remember the original meeting that took place on this two and a half years ago where five members met up to hatch this plan and have been relentless in its pursuit since.

“A mighty day for our club and community,” he said.
