Crosshaven RFC’s Jack O’Connell was recently picked as part of the Munster Squad for the IRFU’s Junior Men's Interprovincial 2023 series. The series consists of three games against the other provincial juniors teams, and operates in a league format. Having won the series last year, Munster were determined to retain the title and handpicked some of the best Junior players from the province.
Jack, who plays an imperative role in Crosshaven RFC’s Junior squad was approached by one of the selectors and invited to play a trial match. Following the trial match, Jack also participated in two training sessions alongside forty-nine other players. A final trial match saw Jack impress the Munster coaches and selectors and he was picked for the final panel which consisted of twenty-five junior players.
On the 29th of April, Munster played Connacht in their opening game which was held in Tuam RFC. Having been 17-0 down, Munster fought back and defeated Connacht 24-17. Jack wore the number 13 jersey for the province and put in a fantastic performance in the outside centre role. “It was my first time representing the province at any level. I was thrilled.” Munster played Ulster in the second round of the series on Saturday 6th of May in Inishowen RFC.
