Damaged Fountainstown Bus Shelter Not Responsibility Of Bus Eireann Or Cork County Council
Writes Jack White
The bus shelter in Fountainstown, which was found severely damaged on the morning of July 21st, (presumably from the night before or early hours of the morning), is not the responsibility of Bus Eireann or Cork County Council and instead was funded, purchased, installed and maintained by the volunteers of Fountainstown Community Association.
Fitted with “specially toughened 1 inch glass” the damage would have to have been inflicted in a “deliberate” fashion and perhaps with a sledge hammer or similar heavy object according to Anthony Murphy, speaking on behalf of Fountainstown Community Association.
“What we want people to know here is that Bus Eireann or Cork County Council will not take responsibility for repairing this bus shelter after the damage. Cork County Council repaired part of it last year after a car dented it at a cost of €900 but I don’t see them helping out this time”, said Anthony. “To replace this glass could cost approximately €4,000 and it is money we just don’t have”, he said.
