This award is the culmination of a lot of work since the Pope’s encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si’, which has generated a huge amount of awareness around the future of the earth. Carrigaline Parish has worked tirelessly over the last number of years to address the climate justice issue and have done a number of activities, such as establishing a Care of the Earth Group, raising awareness of the climate crisis and praying for it as Mass, giving out seeds and making sure that the parish has pollinator friendly plants. A spokesperson for the parish described their efforts and a lot done but so much more to do.
