Kinsale 10 mile Launched
On Sunday February 24th at 12 noon, over 700 runners are excepted to take to the roads of Kinsale and surrounding countryside to complete in the inaugural Kinsale 10-mile road race.
This race, which is being hosted by Riverstick Kinsale Athletic Club, Kinsale Triathlon Club and Kinsale Community School, will see both the two local clubs benefiting as well as a significant contribution being made to local secondary school’s running track fund.
The race organising committee are extremely thankful to all the local businesses, including its main sponsor Eli Lily, with one of the race organisers, Elaine O’Donoghue also paying a special tribute to all those who volunteered to ensure the smooth running of the race.
In addition to what promises to be a great day’s racing, organisers have dedicated the last mile to the late Jamie McCarthy, who died tragically in a car accident in America last year.
The gifted runner, who stared for his club, university, and country, where he picked up a silver team medal at the European crossroad championships, will be in the thoughts of many local runners as they cross the finishing at Kinsale Community School, where the race also gets underway.
