Meet Freeway, or Mr. April to those lucky enough to have him adorn their walls next year in the Rehoming Cork Pets 2020 calendar. Freeway lives with his mom Linda Khara and their family in Passage West. A Yorkshire Terrier, Linda says they jokingly call him a German Shephard who never grew due to his big personality. ‘He is an amazing dog, he’s as cute as a button, loves eating, and loves singing along to the song ‘Moves like Jagger’ by Maroon 5′. The Khara family adopted Freeway in March 2016, when he was five, from Rehoming Cork Pets and they’ve stayed in touch with his original mother who was unable to care for him due to a change in circumstances. ‘I saw him on Facebook and fell instantly in love with his cute little face,’ says Linda. ‘I still touch base with his first mom and send her regular updates and pics.’
Now eight years of age, Freeway is a local celebrity in Passage where he takes his mom Linda on a walk every morning along the Passage West Line to greet his many friends and admirers. ‘There’s Ollie next door and Sammy, and on our walk, we meet Uncle Tony with Daisy and Aunty Clodagh with Holly, and Laura with Joey, it’s like doggy daycare every morning!’ Having recently been told that Freeway is set to be Mr. April in the Rehoming Cork Pets 2020 Calendar, Linda says ‘ah you’ve no idea, we’re having such a skit about the calendar, saying he’s our Page 3 boy or Mr. Kardashian, that Hello magazine will want his pics. The poor dog is simple from us!’ Rehoming Cork Pets 2020 calendars will be launched at The Briar Rose Bar & Grill in Douglas on Friday, November 8th at 7pm.
