Pet Rescues Of The Week

by Nicola Depuis

Welcome to our new column Pet Rescues of the Week sponsored by The Spaw in Douglas – Cork’s only self-service dog wash n’ dry. Every week, we’ll be highlighting different pets around Cork city and county who need new homes. This week we’re featuring animals from the West Cork Animal Welfare Group. If you’re interested, please contact the rescue organisation mentioned in the pet’s profile and remember: don’t shop, adopt!

This Is Patch.

When you first meet Patch he appears to be terrified of everything. However, underneath this is a very loveable and loving young Collie. He likes nothing more than cuddles and playing with other dogs. He is very intelligent. Patch appears to be afraid of many normal commands but learns new ones quickly. Although scared of new people, Patch can be persuaded that they are ok and soon accepts cuddles as usual. However, a busy household wouldn’t suit this timid boy. He’s a soft, affectionate boy who is eager to bond with an owner. Patch needs a home that will accommodate and work on his fearful disposition. He enjoys the company of other dogs so another dog would be beneficial but not essential. Patch walks reasonably well on-lead, but it’s a work in progress, you almost trip over him as he sticks so close to you! He loves the car, travels well and copes well on-lead in new places. He will be a slow project, but a fulfilling one for the right owner. Anyone who takes the time to build up trust with Patch will have a wonderful and devoted companion. Please call the rescue on 086-8500131 if you think you could be the owner(s) to whom Patch can place his trust and love.

This Is Ruben.

Ruben is a beautiful young male Lurcher approximately 3 years old. He is such a sweet loving boy who gets along very well with other dogs and loves people. Lurchers are a wonderful, loving, easy-going breed who love nothing more than a good walk followed by cuddles on the couch. They are a very calming, loving presence to be around and are wonderful at accepting new dogs into their home. Highly intelligent, they’re easily trained. Ruben will fit in well with an active home with loads of love and attention. Please call the rescue on 086-8500131 if you think you can give Ruben a loving home.

This is AUTUMN.

Autumn came into the care of the West Cork Animal Welfare Group with a pelvic injury which has thankfully healed nicely. She is a friendly middle-aged cat who loves her warmth and comfort so she is looking for an indoor-only home. If you are interested in meeting Autumn please contact the rescue on 086-8500131.

The West Cork Animal Welfare Group recently released their 2020 Calendar and Christmas card range, the proceeds of which all go to supporting the very important work of the group in rescuing and rehabilitating unwanted, abandoned, neglected and abused animals in West Cork.
