Dedicated locations for elections posters with the remainder of the district a poster free zone was proposed by Cllr Audrey Buckley (FF) at the monthly meeting of Cork County Council’s Carrigaline Municipal District (MD).
Writes Leo McMahon
This arrangement she said, worked very well in Crosshaven after the local Tidy Towns committee contacted each candidate ahead of the 2019 local election. Only one candidate didn’t comply.
Seconding, Cllr Seamus McGrath (FF) said some other Tidy Towns groups such as Carrigaline, Passage West and Monkstown had asked that posters be kept out of the urban centres and it was generally adhered to. He would prefer a more formal limitation and suggested the Minister be written to. He described posters as a nuisance from an environmental and safety point of view but accepted there could be agreed and selected locations for these.
MD officer Carol Conway said the issue had already been raised at a meeting of Cobh MD and was going to the full council for debate while senior executive officer Nicola Radley felt it was an issue for the full council.
