A busy weekend on the local sports front as football fans look to get over the disappointment of Prague on Thursday night.

For Carrigaline, who are making progress in the development of their new playing facilities in Ballygarvan, the club’s second Junior team have an all-important semi-final outing on Sunday.

Down to face Ballynanty at Douglas Hall’s ground at 3pm on Sunday in the semi-final of the Munster Shield, the game promises to be a cracker.

For Cork football fans, all eyes will be on Croke Park, as Cork face old rivals Meath in the final of the Allianz Division Two, after both teams have been promoted to Division One for 2027.

While Meath go into the final as favourites, local fans will be hoping that Brian O’Driscoll and Carrigaline and Ballygarvan’s Sean Brady will pick up winners’ medals with the Rebel outfit.

The game throws in at 1.45pm on Sunday.

While most people were safely tucked up in front of the fire and watching Ireland falling just short on Thursday night, the footballers of Ballygarvan and Passage met in the McCarthy Insurance Group Division 7 contest in Ballygarvan.

Victory went to the home side on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-13.

While fixtures have been moved around to allow supporters to travel to the league final on Sunday, Carrigaline take on Clyda Rovers on Saturday evening at 7pm, and Kinsale now play Canovee in Kinsale at 4pm, also on Saturday.

Locally, the Carrigdhoun fixtures are as follows: Courcey Rovers v Ballygarvan in Ballinspittle at 10.30am; Ballinhassig v Valley Rovers in Ballinhassig at 11.30am; Kinsale v Ballymartle in Riverstick at 11.30am; and Shamrocks v Carrigaline in Shanbally at 11.30am.

These games are taking place on Sunday, March 29th.

On the soccer front, the fixtures are as follows: Crosshaven take on Park United in the Beamish Stout Senior Second Division tonight at 7pm, with Crosshaven at home. In the Junior 4th Division, Passage plays host to Ballinhassig at 8pm, also on Friday.

On Saturday, Carrigaline’s Junior Premier side travel to Mahon for a 2pm kick-off, and Passage are away to Midleton in the Junior Division Three League, with the game getting underway at 2pm.

Also on Saturday, Kinsale travel to Temple for a 2pm kick-off in the Junior Division Four League, as Carrigaline, also in the same division, must travel to Leeside at 5pm.

On Sunday, Kinsale welcome Youghal to Madden Park for a 10.45am kick-off.
