On Tuesday last 28th April, Crosshaven Camogie returned to Castle Road, where they won last years, U14 B Championship final against Glen Rovers in an exciting match which finished with just a point between the teams. It would be a re match again vs Glen Rovers in the Semi Final of Cork Feile Division 3. If was a beautiful sunny evening for throw in, the reward would be a final that same evening against either Rockban or Passage, who were playing in the other semi-final.
The format of just 12 minutes a half, mean a quick start is critical, with these matches being typically low scoring affairs. Crosshaven got off the mark first with a lovely taken goal from Doireann Murphy, flicking the ball into the net from close range. Glen Rovers responded well with three well taken frees to leave it all square at half time.
Crosshaven came out strong again in the second half and got a second goal from Lauren Delaney from a long-range effort, another free converted and a point from play from the Glen and this was setting up to be a close-run finish again. However, another long-range effort from Juno Foran just crept under the crossbar for a third and decisive goal. It was a hugely competitive match with every player, from both teams, playing with intensity and passion.

Rockban came through the other semi-final winning 2-3 to 0-1 against Passage. The final pairing had been decided, Crosshaven would play Rockban.
There wasn’t much time before the match threw in at 7:45pm and the sun low in the sky, Crosshaven won the toss and choose to play with the sun at their backs, which may have proved decisive. Again, Crosshaven got off to a fast start with early points from Juno Foran and Lauren Delaney, the sun played a big part in goal with a high dropping ball with the sun completely blinding the Rockban goalie the sliothar dropped under the post just before the break.
Rockban fought back tremendously well in the second half and there was some brilliant defensive play from the Crosshaven backs limiting Rockban to a single point. A final point from Juno Foran sealed the victory for Crosshaven. Crosshaven’s defence has been significant factor right the way through this competition, In their 3 qualifying matches they only conceded 6 points with no goals, and again in the semi-final and final only conceding 6 points in total.
In his presentation speech afterwards, Padraig Treacy complimented Crosshaven Camogie for the great work that is being done, and that its great to see this translating into success on the pitch.
In their acceptance speech, co captains, Saoirse Kane, and Sarah Rose, thanked Glen Rovers, and Rockban for such great matches along with Cork Camogie and the referee, which make this competition a great success. A special mention was made to the coaches, Hugh Sisk, Lauren Delaney and Donagh Murphy for their time, and commitment to the team over the years.
Crosshaven will go forward now to play at regional Feile.
Good luck to them.
