Table Tennis Comeback in Passage West ?

The return of outdoor table tennis to Marmullane Park, Passage West was proposed by Cllr Eoghan Fahy (SF) and fully supported at the recent meeting of the county council’s Carrigaline Municipal District (MD).

‘The concrete base of the previous one is still there so that should reduce the expense’, he stated.

In a report, executive engineer for area services, Kieran Hennessy said potential funding opportunities would be explored for providing a concrete table tennis table and he would update councillors.

Cllr Fahy wondered if funding could be allocated from revenue in the MD from the Local Property

Tax.

‘Anything extra which will benefit people being active outdoors would be great’, said Cllr Una McCarthy (FG) who noted that there is a table tennis facility in Ringaskiddy.

Cllr Audrey Buckley (FF) concurred, saying Crosshaven Tidy Towns got such an amenity for one a few years ago with seating at Camden plus a new hopscotch area.

Cllr Fahy also had a motion requesting that Fair Hill be added to the list of works before Passage GAA Blitz in September.  An cathaoirleach Cllr Ben Dalton-O’Sullivan (Ind) seconded.

Acting senior executive engineer Andy O’Brien replied that it would be listed for pot hole repairs before the Blitz.  Cllr Fahy said trimming of hedges along the footpath, as done prior to the Walk of Hope on the R610 road to Rochestown in May, was also needed.  MD officer Denise Kidney who walks the route, agreed.

On a proposal by Cllr McCarthy, the MD congratulated Passage West Camogie squad on winning the Seandun Division Under 13 League.

Ramps Request

Cllr Patrick Donovan (FF) had a motion that a ramp be installed on the road entering Pembroke Wood, Passage West before the junction with Maple Rise. Cllr McCarthy seconded.

‘Ramps will only be installed at pedestrian crossing points and not in housing estates,’ the engineer replied.

Cllr Donovan said he met residents who were concerned about speeding. If there was ever a change in policy about ramps in estates, he asked that the area office consider this location.

Noting that funding had been secured by the council, Cllr Fahy asked if work to repair the pontoon at Passage West had gone to tender. Ms Kidney said she would enquire from the county engineer and report back.
