Kinsale AFC is proud to celebrate Chairperson Trina O’Neill, who has dedicated over 13 years to the club committee and served as Chairperson for the past 9 years. Trina continues a long family tradition of involvement in the club, following in the footsteps of her father Tom Jones, Uncle Denis Jones, Grand Uncle Connie O’Hare, and brothers Peter & David. Her own three sons, Stephen, Brian, and Barry, are also active in the club.
Described as the “heartbeat of the club and the town,” Trina’s influence extends far beyond the pitch. She plays a vital role in numerous local committees, including the Folk Group and Scoil Naomh Eltin, demonstrating her commitment to the wider Kinsale community.

Under Trina’s stewardship, Kinsale AFC has experienced remarkable growth. The club now boasts nearly 1,000 members across more than 30 teams, a threefold increase over the past decade. Despite the rapid expansion, Trina remains deeply involved in day-to-day operations and fundraising initiatives. She is a driving force behind campaigns such as Chase the Case, WinaGaff, Super-draws, and the weekly 50/50 draw, held every Monday night with William McCarthy, which helps cover the overheads of running a large club.
In recognition of her tireless dedication, Trina has been awarded the prestigious Spirit of the Community Award. She expressed her gratitude:
“I am deeply honoured to receive this award. It reflects the collective effort of our volunteers, players, and supporters who make Kinsale AFC a vibrant part of our community.”
Commenting on the award, Vincent O’Donovan, Publisher of the Carrigdhoun Newspaper, said “Trina O’Neill embodies the true spirit of community. Her dedication, leadership, and tireless commitment to Kinsale AFC and the town at large are an inspiration. This award is a fitting recognition of her outstanding contribution over many years.”
Eoghan Murphy, General Manager of Cork International Hotel, added “Trina’s passion and commitment to Kinsale AFC is unmatched. She has not only grown the club immensely but has also strengthened the sense of community in Kinsale. Her work leaves a lasting impact on the town and its young people.”
