Valleys too Strong for Gallant Tracton

Tracton 1-5 Valley Rovers 3-15

JJ Hurley

Valley Rovers were far too strong for Tracton in their Junior B Football League encounter in Minane Bridge on Wednesday night.

Two Adam Settini goals killed this game as a contest, but Tracton never threw in the towel for the hour.

The teams had hardly settled when the Rovers found the Tracton net as Darra Keane finished off a polished Rover's move.

Tracton reduced the deficit with a 45 from Daniel Flaherty before Eoin Crowley stretched the visitor's lead with a white flag.

By the 9th minute, Valleys had added two more points, bringing the score from 1-3 to 0-1.

Despite the arrears, Tracton were still in the contest when Ian O'Brien fired over a superb point on ten minutes.

After both sides had wides, the Rovers forced three consecutive points, as Gary Deane, Jason Cronin, and Aaron O' Leary had the Rovers ahead by 1-6 to 0-2 after 20 minutes.

Darra Keane looked to double his goal tally on 28 minutes but Cian Breathnach made a telling interception.

Stephen Fay added another point to leave the score at 1-7 to 0-2 at half-time.

The second half had Valleys straight into the attack as O'Leary sent the ball over the bar, followed by a swift Cronin point.

A Valley's move almost brought another goal, but Tracton's Edwad O'Callaghan was equal to it.

Keane added to his tally with another point as Adam Settini opened his account with a goal as the Rovers were leading by 2-10 to 0-2.

The goal seemed to stir Tracton into action as Aaron Lyons blasted over the bar, followed moments later by a Tim Lyons point with the score at 2-12 to 0-4.

To be fair to the home side, they never gave up and continued to take the game to Valleys.

However, the Innishannon outfit were absolutely ruthless in front of goal as Settini added a third goal.

Tracton's refusal to go away was rewarded on 20 minutes with a David Good goal, and from here to the finish, Valleys outscored their hosts by three points to one.
