‘Dog fouling at Haulbowline Island Recreational Amenity Park is a disgrace,’ declared Cllr Jack White (FG) at the monthly meeting of the county council’s Carrigaline Municipal District (MD).
He proposed that a meeting be sought with Cobh MD (the local government area in which the park is situated even though direct access is only possible from the Ringaskiddy side) about this problem of ongoing littering.

Cllr White said the park was generally unkempt on a recent visit he made there and argued it wasn’t unreasonable to request it be brought up to a reasonable standard and have basic provisions such as bins for general and dog litter as well as discussions about responsibility for its future upkeep.
Seconding, Cllr Marcia D’Alton (Ind) said it was a topic discussed several times before. The vast majority of people using the park were from Carrigaline MD and she had already suggested that for the time being, sufficient funding be given to Cobh MD in its budget for its maintenance and especially the provision of bins. It was also agreed that the electoral commission be asked to transfer Haulbowline Island into Carrigaline MD.
