At St Mary’s Church, she was an active volunteer who formed and led the Sunday morning choir. During Covid, she videoed masses to share with those who couldn’t attend and organised concerts in Fr. O’Flynn Park when restrictions were lifted. She also founded the local children’s choir, which produced a CD in memory of Fr. Con Cronin. Pat Doyle

Poet

Growing up in Clonakilty, a worn-out volume of "Collected Poems by Coleridge and Wordsworth" was among one of Patricia Doyle’s  most prized possessions. She and her sister delighted in composing tunes to the poems on rainy days.

At school, Mother Bernard fostered a love of Shakespeare by introducing "Macbeth" as a story to a captivated fourth class. During secondary school, they delved into the works of Yeats, Shakespeare, Coleridge, Wordsworth, Stevenson, and Gray, among others. They also sang Moore's Melodies and ballads by Robbie Burns in the school choir.

Poetry, to her, is a magical entity that captures matters of the heart, soul, and mind in words. It unlocks the kaleidoscope of dormant thoughts and feelings that reside within each of us. Writing poetry brings her immense joy.

Patricia Doyle regularly contributes her poetry  to The Carrigdhoun
