The event, a community-focused, supported by local clubs, with charities this year being Carrigaline First Response Group and Carrigaline Youth Centre.Cycling legend Sean Kelly attended the event, adding to its profile.Starting from Carrigaline Soccer Club, with 60km and 120km routes, capped at 500 cyclists, there was food, refreshments, and post-cycle events.

3,000 Support Carrigaline Darkness Into Light Walk

Over 3,000 people participated in the first-ever Carrigaline Darkness Into Light Walk.

The crowd gathered at Barry Collins SuperValu, where they were addressed by rugby star Peter O’Mahony and organisers.

The 5K route began at 4:30 am in the dark and finished in daylight, raising massive awareness of suicide amongst all ages.

European Glory For Belgooly Lads

Two Belgooly residents tasted European success in a road bowling tournament in the Netherlands over the weekend. Members of the Clontead Bowling Club, Tom O’Donovan, 16 and Eoin Healy, 17, featured in the Irish U18 team, who claimed a very credible second place, despite some stiff opposition from their Germany, Italian and Dutch opponents. Indeed for Tom it was a very special weekend as he also took bronze in the individual competition. Certainly one to watch for the future, Tom had already been very unlucky not to capture an All-Ireland title in 2015 but this very competent young bowler was just edged out in last year’s title decider. However, recent events on Dutch soil will certainly have made up for last year’s disappointment.

Local Men To Take Part In Cannes Short Film Corner

Carrigaline film-makers Ken Williams and Denis Fitzpatrick are bringing their short film, The Break, all the way to Cannes, the glamorous home of European film.

The film, which is the pair’s fourth, is about a family seeking refuge in post-Economic crash Ireland and stars Ronan Leahy and the up-and-coming Irish actor Barry Keoghan. It also features the award-winning playwright, Emmet Kirwan, Aoibheann McCann and former D’Unbelievable, Jon Kenny. Local actors Paul Elliot and David Carroll also feature in one of the film’s most memorable scenes.

After a successful festival run that included opening the Cork Film Festival the film has been selected for the Cannes Short Film Former, a “rendezvous for filmmakers” that has filmmakers from 101 countries exhibit their short films to industry leaders, investors and fellow artists.
