As we celebrate 35 years of local journalism, we look back on some of the editions that shaped The Carrigdhoun Newspaper legacy and trust within the community.

Local election candidate Padraic Valley interacted with young people on Twitter to find out what they believed Carrigaline needed. Valley said the discourse was “not about votes … There was a very clear and obvious frustration among young people in Carrigaline and surrounding areas of Ballygarvan, Ringaskiddy, Tracton and the lack of amenities in the area. The conversation has given the young people in the area a voice, to air thoughts, concerns and very valid contributions in the community”

Ballygarvan Honoured at Rebel Og Awards
Ballygarvan U14 Camogie team was honoured at the Rebel Og awards in Rochestown Park Hotel following their county success. Eimear McAndrew and Isobel O’Regan - who is now an All-Ireland winner with Cork - accepted the award on behalf of the team from Marc Sheehan, Chairman of the Rebel Og and Anthony Nash, Cork Senior hurler.
Kinsale YC Honours Rear Admiral Mark Mellet DSM
Kinsale Yacht Club bestowed Honorary Membership to Rear Admiral Mark Mellet DSM. Rear Admiral Mellet DSM was the first member of the Naval Service to have been promoted to the Naval Rank of Rear Admiral in the history of the Naval Service. Rear Admiral Mark Mellet and his wife, Mrs. Liz Mellet was welcomed to Kinsale Yacht Club by Finnbarr O’Regan, Commodore, KYC and Tom Roche, Vice Commodore KYC.
Proposed Ringaskiddy Redevelopment
Following three days of public consultation, the Port of Cork lodged an application with An Bord Pleanala as part of the first phase of the implementation of the Port of Cork’s Strategic development Plan Review.
Investment in Belgooly National School
Labour T.D. Micheal McCarthy welcomed news that Belgooly Central School was set to receive additional funding under the Emergency Works Programme. He said the “The main beneficiaries of this work will be local schoolchildren, but it will also create a number of direct and indirect jobs during the construction process which will be a welcome boost to the local community.”
Frank Cronin and Anthony McCarthy honoured by Ballymartle GAA
Club Chairperson Alan Coleman paid tribute to the significant part both men played in the rise of the South-East side to the county senior hurling ranks. Frank's involvement can be traced back to the 1960’s.
